Introduction to Nail Reconstruction

Nail damage can occur through various factors such as dryness, trauma, or fungal nail infections. Many people with nail damage feel restricted in wearing open-toe shoes and can be embarrassed and suffer low self-esteem due to the appearance of their nails. Nail reconstruction can be a transformative treatment for patients with damaged or unsightly nails. This technique uses a flexible resin to replace the affected nail. At AIRE Podiatry Studio in New York City, we use KeryFlex for nail reconstruction. KeryFlex is a specifically designed resin that mimics the appearance of a natural nail. It is translucent, flexible, and can be customized to match the color and shape of the surrounding nails. KeryFlex is much more preferred at our studio than traditional acrylic nails, as it looks more natural, is thinner, and more flexible. Your provider will examine your nails and outline the procedure along with its associated risks and benefits.

Once you agree to proceed, your provider will draft a customized treatment plan. You can then leave the office with a plan for the procedure. Please see our patient coordinator for scheduling and pricing options if you choose to proceed.

What to Expect on the Day of a Nail Reconstruction Treatment

On the day of your nail reconstruction treatment in New York City, your provider and their staff will greet you, get you settled, and review your treatment plan in case of any last-minute questions and concerns. Once you are comfortable, a board-certified anesthetist will administer local anesthesia.

First, your provider will clean the damaged nail, removing any debris or infected tissue to create a clean base for reconstruction.

The resin nail will then be sculpted to match the size and shape of your natural nail. Finally, your provider will cure the nail in its setting on the foot with ultraviolet (UV) light.

The new nail is then buffed and polished to fade naturally with your original nail.
