Introduction to Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
Shockwave Therapy, also known as extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), is a revolutionary treatment aimed at relieving body pain by triggering the body’s circulation. This treatment delivers powerful but gentle ultrasonic vibrations through the skin to the target area. The vibrations create microtraumas that boost blood cell production, stimulate circulation, and, in turn, accelerate healing. Even though it sounds extreme, it is not. It is non-invasive, highly tolerated and safe. Foot pain and stress can cause stubborn musculoskeletal conditions in bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. Some conditions, such as plantar fasciitis and tendonitis, are known to be treated successfully using ESWT. Foot and ankle surgeons Erin Koprince, DPM, DABPM, and Mona Ramani, DPM, AACFAS, offer shockwave therapy in New York City at AIRE Podiatry Studio.
